Chiesa Madre of Naro

The Mother ChurchA town of probably Greek origin, Naro possesses monumental riches of considerable importance.
In addition to the beautiful Church of SS. Salvatore which has an imposing façade and a splendid Baroque portal, in Naro the Mother Church has great architectural importance.
Built in the sec. XVII by the Jesuits, it was raised to the status of the Mother Church when in 1867 the Cathedral began to be unsafe.
There are many works kept in the church, mostly coming from the Duomo. These include the splendid baptismal font with reliefs of 1424 by Maestro Nardo de Crepanzano, the Holy Family, a marble group of the Gagini school, a marble statue of the Madonna della Catena by Giacomo Gagini (1517-1598).
In the choir we find the large canvas by Domenico Provenzani (1736-1794) depicting the Annunciation and a Madonna della Pace dating back to the century. XVI. In the sacristy, the wooden cabinets also come from the Duomo.source: sicilia.indettaglio.it
