This male ginkgo in the Goseck castle courtyard was planted in 1859 (according to the purchase receipt) by the family of the Counts of Zech-Burkersroda, who acquired the property that year and lived in it until 1945. The age of the tree at the time of planting is unknown. However, the plant was ordered from a nursery in Erfurt, so it would have been around 15 years old when it was placed on Goseck, so it is around 180 years old today.

According to the most recent examination in July 2022, the tree is vital and continues to develop. To secure the treetop in the event of wind or snow loads, tension cables have been carefully tied into place since 2015 and are barely visible.
