At 672 meters above sea level, the Rosenkopf is one of the small peaks in the Thuringian Forest. From Waldbad Stützerbach it goes into the valley of the Taubach. A natural path soon swings to the right over the mountain ridge, past the Rosenkopf, through extensive mountain meadows, down into the Freibachtal. This section of the trail is one of my favorite parts of the hiking area south of Ilmenau. The creek-traversed, high-altitude meadow landscape, surrounded by partly mixed mountain forest, strong, isolated spruce trees and 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains make up the experience. The meadows are occasionally farmed with horses and cattle, which makes the views even more attractive. The fenced areas can be crossed on the paths.
