After being destroyed by fire, St. Mary's Church was rebuilt in 1563 by Ludolf Klencke as a Protestant church. This makes the church the first free-standing Protestant church to be built in Germany after the Reformation. The altar comes from the previous building from 1409. The first organ was purchased in 1672.
