On Saturday, October 14, 1944, a major attack took place in Salland, roughly in the area between Schalkhaar, Holten, Haarle and Heeten. The possible reason was that the weapon was dropped
resistance the night before. During this raid, 18-year-old Marinus Stevens from Apeldoorn, who was in hiding, was shot on Haarlerweg in Holten. The Nijverdal resistance fighter Gerrit Jan Piksen was killed in Haarle and the Jewish refugee Mozes (Maurits) Bachrach (born in Arnhem) on the Portlanderdijk between Nieuw Heeten and Schoonheten.
