The Jarama River runs completely from north to south through the Southeast Regional Park. It starts at the foot of the Sierra Cebollera, at the foot of the Coto de Montejo peak (2,047 m), surrounded by cattle ports and the Somosierra hills. In its first fluvial beats it passes through the Chaparral de Montejo, also declared a protected natural area, and several towns in Madrid and Guadalajara framed in the route of black architecture. It belongs to the Tagus hydrographic basin, is 194 kilometers long and has a very gentle slope, especially in its middle and lower basin, which, together with the usual landslides of the gypsum cliffs that hinder the flow of water, favors a layout with abundant meanders and fertile alluvial lands cultivated since the time of the Arabs.
