The historical site of ancient Palairos (Greek: Αρχαία Πάλαιρος) is located on a rocky hill named Kechropoula, near the modern town of Paleros. In antiquity, the fortified city controlled the entire plain and Lake Voulkaria. It was in direct proximity to important Corinthian colonies such as Lefkada, Sollion, and Anaktorion.
The site is particularly known for its well-preserved, monumental city walls from the classical period. This defensive wall winds around the entire hilltop. In addition to the defensive wall, the complex includes ruins of ancient residential buildings, an agora, and cisterns for water supply.
