Abandoned Munitions Bunker, Hünxe

In this former ammunition depot there are numerous bunkers that were used between 1981 and 1998 for ammunition and military vehicles.
Today, overgrown streets lead through the huge complex past numerous bunkers that can hardly be seen from the air.
Some of the bunkers are open and can be entered. However, there are hardly any objects in it - but numerous mosquitoes and other little animals.
In order to see all the bunkers, you have to plan at least 2 hours for the visit. In addition, there may be the path that has to be covered to get to the site.
Many bunkers are not visible at first glance, creating an exciting atmosphere. Especially in the evening there is a depressing atmosphere here, which is somewhat mystical. This is especially true since this place is deserted, but at the same time incredibly large and confusing.When walking the site, new bunkers appear constantly to the left and right of the path.
The paved paths lead completely straight through the area and only rarely take a curve, behind which another path opens up.One constantly discovers new junctions, which merge into another parallel path, via which one discovers more bunkers.The long distances, the desolation and desolation of this place, as well as the countless ammunition bunkers make this abandoned facility a very special place.Many paths look the same and due to the many bunkers it quickly becomes unclear in which direction you are going and where you came from.
With satellite images it is difficult to see how large and strict this facility really is.A great abandoned place that reminds of the old days - in the middle of the forest of Hünxe.
