The settlement area Irenensee/Spreewaldseen with almost 300 houses, a mobile home site and the Irenensee campsite was created in the 1970s as a holiday settlement. Most of the houses are now permanently inhabited. Due to the structural condition and the heating technology, many residents have high energy costs. The specific greenhouse gas emissions from heating with electric night storage heaters are particularly high.
