The Museo Civico is located in the Palazzo Pubblico in Piazza del Campo.
The palazzo was built in Gothic style in travertine and brick at the beginning of the 14th century.
From the front, the triple windows and the black and white coat of arms of Siena, the "Balzana", are particularly striking.
The museum is definitely worth a visit: magnificent halls with around two dozen frescoes from the 14th and 14th centuries. The largest with motifs of the struggle of Pope Alexander III. against Emperor Barbarossa, which the Italians won. About 1,000 years ago...
Did you know? - we are not.
Particularly impressive is the Sala del Mappamondo with the depiction of the "Maestà" (Madonna Enthroned) by Simone Martini, around 1315.
Oh yes: from the halls you go up to the fourth floor, from there on a terrace that offers a magnificent view of the foothills and the surroundings of the city.
