On August 2, 1830, the normal school was founded to train Catholic elementary school teachers for the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, which was expanded into a teachers' seminar in 1861. In 1928 the pedagogical course was opened in Vechta for Catholic elementary school teachers.[4] On April 1, 1941, the “Oldenburg Teacher Training Institute Vechta i. O.” was set up, to accommodate which the Dominican monastery in Füchtel was confiscated.[5]
