More like a long drag of a French alpine climb, this one makes no secret of its length, as right from the outset you'll be able to spot the ever present sight of the transmitter tower at the top (524 metres above sea level). The 2014 Tour de France passed over this climb and there were reportedly 60,000 spectators lining the road - the footage is pretty cool!

The gradient ramps up in Holmbridge to 12.5%, before easing a little through Holme. The final 2.2km (around 1.5 miles) have an average gradient of 9.3% and wide, open views that ease the suffering somewhat (ideally, you'll hit this climb when the sun is out!).

Probably the most iconic climb in the area, not too steep but steep enough to make it hard. Panoramic views from the top make the effort worthwhile

It's a tough climb that keeps on giving but worth it for the view!
