The Bocholt-Herentals canal is taking on a more recreational role due to the increasing number of pleasure boats on inland shipping in Belgium. i.a. Herentals, Geel, Ten Aard, Lommel-Kolonie and Neerpelt were given marinas for water tourism. The canal is also used in several places by local canoe and kayak clubs. The towpath along the canal forms the backbone of the cycling network through the Kempen.
