Hiking Highlight
The almost 700 meters high Ernstberg is not only the highest volcano in the Western Eifel, but also the second highest mountain in the Eifel - only the Hohe Acht is a little higher. The summit is densely forested and offers no view, but still worth a hike up. The mountain slopes are dotted with exciting rock formations that tower out of the forest floor. In combination with the huge beeches here comes a primeval mood.
Around the summit beautiful hiking trails lead through the forest, which are also popular with mountain bike riders.

Interesting moss-clad rock formations. Inaccessible, but still recognizable cave entrances from times of basalt stone mining.
If the trees have no leaves, a view is also possible from the flat top.

Really mystical place that one would not have expected on the wooded summit of the Ernstberg. We were all alone on the 699.80 meters.
