    On the spot where the Kühnring parish church stands today, Hadmar I built the Kuenring family castle in the first half of the 12th century, after his grandfather Azzo von Gobatsburg had already built a chapel here at the end of the 11th century, which was supervised by Bishop Altmann was consecrated by Passau and later served as a castle chapel. After the castle was destroyed, it was rededicated as a parish church and, in some cases, significantly rebuilt several times. During the renovation in 1660 it finally received its current appearance.
