    AMETHYST SHOWS
The largest exposed amethyst vein in the world! The Maissau amethyst is a real rarity, a so-called "gang or ribbon amethyst". In total, there are only about twenty regions worldwide that produce good quality ligament amethysts; the incomparable violet of the amethyst can only be found in the very few occurrences like here in Maissau.

The guided tour through the amethyst gallery begins in the amethyst pavilion and takes you back into the history of amethyst. From pharaohs to emperors and kings to Hildegard von Bingen, the amethyst has seen a lot in its history. As early as 1350, the naturalist Konrad von Megenberg enthusiastically stated: "Amethyst drives away bad thoughts and brings good reason."

The second part of the tour takes you into the exhibition tunnel. There, the Maissau ribbon amethyst impresses with its incomparable purple and enchants young and old. Visitors can marvel at the magnificent amethyst ribbon at a depth of 12 meters with over 40 meters. Maissau thus not only has one of the largest amethyst deposits in Europe, but also the world's largest accessible amethyst dike!
