The chapel was built in 1862 with the stones from the old church, which had been demolished in the same year. Baron Clemens August von Nagel-Doornick and Maria Johanna Huberta Countess Stolberg zu Stolberg from Westheim, who had married on January 14, 1862, had the chapel built. A previous chapel once stood in the middle of the street. The architect of the new chapel on Schürenbrink was Emil von Manger from Oelde, who also built the new parish church. The chapel is reminiscent of the old church on Margarethenplatz, which was built at the end of the 12th century. While the Schürenbrink chapel preserved Gothic elements of the old church, the Marienkapelle on the Dromberg points to the Romanesque past. The altarpiece inside shows St. Joseph carrying the baby Jesus in his arms.
