During the first days of the 1914-18 war, the German troops wanted to pass between the forts of Fléron and Chaudfontaine to arrive as quickly as possible in Liège.
They reached Olne on August 5, 1914. Informed by observers placed in the tower of the church of Magnée, the Belgian forces of the forts of Fléron and Chaudfontaine fired shells on the German soldiers advancing from Soiron towards Olne and Saint Hadelin. Convinced that the Belgian forts had been informed by the inhabitants, the German troops killed 65 people, including 24 on the site of Vieux Sart.
