The Rendierhoeve’, a somewhat strange name for a monastery complex on a generous piece of land (approx. 3 ha) in which French Trappistine sisters of the Cistercian order found refuge from 1903 to 1913. Situated on the Eindhovenseweg, halfway between Tilburg and Moergestel. The name is prominently displayed on the facade of a gatehouse with a sculpture of a reindeer’s head above it. Not many of the many daily passers-by will know what is hidden behind the large green entrance gate. Not surprisingly. Until recently, the gate was hermetically sealed for more than 50 years. No one was allowed in.
