A castle in Born, not far from the present-day ruins, was first mentioned in 1150. By the early 17th century, the site had fallen into disrepair, prompting the De Leerodt family to begin building a new castle in 1662. However, the building, later occupied by the Barbou van Roosteren family, was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1930. A beautiful zoo was created in the gardens surrounding the ruins, where visitors can admire numerous animal species.
Even without visiting the zoo, it's worth taking a break and taking a closer look at the ruins.
