I didn't know about the facility before 🙈
I was totally surprised when I crossed the border from Poland into Germany.

"The barracks were built around 1903 for the 54th Field Artillery Regiment and expanded from 1935 onwards. The buildings' construction years are still clearly recognizable today; the older buildings have arched windows, while those constructed from 1935 onwards have only simple rectangular windows. From the mid-1930s onwards, the 39th Artillery Regiment was stationed there. After the Second World War, the barracks housed workers who were to repair the Oder bridges, followed by the barracked People's Police (the forerunner of the NVA) and the Red Army. Until the 1950s, German civilians also lived on the Oder Island, particularly on Kronmühlendamm. Two garden centers also existed there. It was not until the early 1960s, roughly at the same time as the construction of the Berlin Wall, that the area became a restricted area and remained so until the Red Army withdrew."
