"Until the completion of the Gienanth tunnel in 1864, the Black Shaft was the main shaft of the iron ore mine in Langental. It was deepened to a depth of 74 m [= depth] in the years 1921 - 1923 and finally brought down to a depth of 100 m during the last mining attempts for iron ore in Imsbach from 1938 - 1940. Finally, an attempt should be made from this shaft to develop the continuation of the copper ore deposits of the 'White Mine' and the 'Reich Geschwiebe' pit. This work was no longer carried out – allegedly due to major water ingress.” - Source: information board on site
