Probably Zweibrücken's most famous character is "'s Luiche," who was born on May 11, 1860.
His real name was Ludwig Arnold, who, as "Porter Number 1," made a name for himself in Zweibrücken, primarily as a porter.
In his prime, he stood at the train station wearing his red porter's cap emblazoned with "Porter Number 1" (according to his own statement, he was the inventor of this job title). Whenever a train arrived in Zweibrücken and the hotel porters called out the names of their hotels, he would shout out "Porter Arnold" in a shrill voice, as if representing a world-renowned company. He earned extra income not only by carrying travelers' suitcases, but also by selling pretzels, postcards, and shoelaces.
Zweibrücken sculptor Gerd Dehof dedicated a bronze sculpture to him, which stands in front of St. Alexander's Church and has been a popular photo subject for young and old for decades. Almost every Zweibrücken child has sat on Luiche's shoulders and been photographed that way.alt-zweibruecken.de/luiche
