#05 - Maison de Jules Verne
Jules Verne in everyday life
After arriving in Amiens in July 1871, in October 1882 I decided to move to this "tower house" at 2 rue Charles-Dubois, where I lived until 1900. Other places could have been named "Maison de Jules Verne", such as B. No. 44 of today's Boulevard Jules Verne.
At that time I was at the height of my fame and known worldwide for my "Extraordinary Journeys". This building corresponded to my level of fame. I held a costume ball, received journalists from all over the world, showed them around the house, and they marveled at the richness of my personal library and my modest study. There are photos of the large living room, of me and my wife Honorine in front of the conservatory door, or of me and my dog in the garden.
The city of Amiens acquired the house in 1980. Today, Amiens residents and tourists from all over the world have the privilege of discovering the city as if it were a book. When you hear the creaking of the original parquet floor in the rooms on the ground floor, you can imagine me approaching to greet you.
