The three-aisled pilgrimage church is decorated with wall and vault paintings. The Romanesque baptismal font is said to date from the early days of the church. The middle part of the church is made of field stones and was built around 1200. To make room for pilgrims, the eastern part (brickwork) was added in the 15th century. Another innovation was the addition of the church tower in 1835.

      St. Mary's Church in Büchen-Dorf.
The newest part of the church is the tower. The old beginnings of the tower wall can still be seen on the west wall. The tower was once wider and more massive, but was rebuilt narrower after the fires in 1837 and 1911. The bell was also lost in 1911 and was therefore recast.
The oldest part of the church is the western section, built of fieldstone in the late Romanesque-early Gothic transitional style. Due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the church was expanded around 1500 with a late Gothic extension.
The church still contains the treasury, in which the miraculous image of Mary Thovboke was kept at the top, and the offered pennies were placed at the bottom. The image of Mary disappeared during the Thirty Years' War.
St. Mary's Church is known for its expressive ceiling paintings. In the nave, twelve apostles are depicted at their execution. The east bay of the north aisle tells the story of Catherine of Alexandria; the south aisle tells the story of Isaac's sacrifice, David and Goliath, Samson and the lion, as well as equestrian saints and prophetic pairs.
