Anyone traveling in Märkische Schweiz (Markish Switzerland) should not just walk through Buckow, but stroll through it – ideally with open eyes and time to spare. The small town, which likes to call itself the "Pearl of Märkische Schweiz," rightly bears this title: Buckow is not a museum-like, idyllic village, but a vibrant place with history, charm, and nooks and crannies. The market square, with its stately town church and its red bricks, forms the heart of the town – beating quietly but reliably. Small shops, cafés with homemade cakes, and the obligatory flower shop give the impression that time has stood still here to take a moment to breathe. To the right of the church tower, an alley leads to the "Waldrieden," a magnificent building with turrets and half-timbered walls – half fairytale castle, half sanatorium from a better era.Anyone lucky enough to snag a spot in front of the bakery in the afternoon will not only enjoy freshly baked goods, but also a glimpse into daily life in Buckow: a small group of hikers shoulders backpacks, a child runs across the cobblestones with an ice cream, an elderly gentleman takes his time. A lot of time. From the center, it's only a few steps to forests, lakes, and streams – but that's precisely why it's worth taking a look back: to Buckow, where Brandenburg takes on a face. Not a perfect one. But a real one.
