A visitor center, two recreational areas, three viewpoints and four marked trails make this peri-urban park one of the most interesting in the province. These facilities are intended to promote recreational use, one of the main objectives of this type of protected space.

Forming part of Sierra Morena, the landscape is made up of dense pine forests and holm oaks in a mixed mount with typical Mediterranean scrub. The Los Villares recreational area traditionally welcomes the people of Cordoba who prepare their popular pots here on the day of the patron saint, San Rafael. It is also a characteristic place to observe the San Lorenzo meteor shower from the esplanade of its large car park.
