In the fifteenth century, San Álvaro de Córdoba acquired a piece of land called Torre de Berlanga to found a monastery. The primitive church was completed in 1442 and the convent shortly after. The first reconstruction dates back to the 16th century, the most important being the attack in the 18th century. The church is all decorated with baroque wall paintings. The main altarpiece is surprising for being made of non-polychrome wood, retaining its natural colour, which was unusual in the 18th century. In 1836 the convent was demolished, preserving the church. The pilgrimage of Santo Domingo is the first of the spring celebrated in Córdoba and enjoys great popular devotion.
