Brodau is a beautiful place right on the Baltic Sea just north of Neustadt in Holstein. A long-time landmark for many Baltic Sea vacationers was the Brodauer mill, which has recently burned down.
The Gutsbezirk Brodau, on which some villages are located in Schashagen, was created in 1526 by Heinrich Rantzau († 1538) on Helmstorf. Other districts used to belong to the Johanniskloster in Lübeck and the estate Mönchneversdorf which today belongs to the neighboring municipality Schönwalde am Bungsberg.
