The rune stones of Haithabu are valuable historical documents whose meaning lies in the fact that the early history of southern Denmark from the time before and after the Danish unification can be linked to real events. The purpose of rune stones is to convey to posterity the memory of important men. The erection of such memorial stones is therefore limited to a social circle. The four rune stones referring to the city of Haithabu are exhibited in the Viking Museum Haithabu and are divided into two groups, the "Sigtryggsteine" and the "Svensteine".

The Erik Stone is one of four rune stones that stood near the Viking city of Haithabu.

Thus - as here the Viking Erik - warriors were honored, who lost their lives in the fight.

The original is in the Viking Museum in Haithabu

The short walk to the Erik Stone is worth it, unfortunately right on the main road.
