The original church from the 13th century was partially destroyed in a feud between Duke Albrecht of Saxony and Dietrich von Mandelsloh. The successor burned down in 1755 together with several farmsteads and the school building. This was followed by years in a barn converted into a makeshift church. The new church was only consecrated in 1769. Several conversions, including by the Hanoverian architect Conrad Wilhelm Haase. At the beginning of the Third Reich, the interior was renovated as a job creation measure
