Goldbeck is the highest town in the Weserbergland and extends at an altitude of 320 - 378 m on a high plateau, the so-called Schievelstein plateau. Because the barren soil and the harsh climate offered only limited development opportunities for agriculture, a flourishing rural handicraft developed here in the early 19th century, with linen weaving becoming particularly important. The Goldbecker cloth was traded via Rinteln as far as Hamburg and Bremen. The numerous craftsmen's houses built close together can still be found in the village today.
