Visiting Eindhoven by public transport? Don't forget to look back when you leave the station on the city center side. You'll be standing in front of your first monumental building: the station building. Built in 1956, based on a design by architect Koen van der Gaast, it has been a national monument since January 1, 2008.

According to an urban legend, this building was modeled after a Philips radio from the 1950s. However, that's impossible, as such a radio didn't exist at the time. It wasn't until 1960 that Philips released the Box15U, for which the station building was the inspiration. The fact that the building does resemble an old-fashioned radio, due to its shape and the adjacent tower with its transmission mast, is probably a (nice) coincidence.
