Site of arguably Britain's first factory (Silk Mill) which is now a museum. Also has a statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie celebrating his advance on London (which didn't get much further than Derby) and a swing bridge over the River Derwent (which can be cycled across). Nice sitting area very close to Derby city centre.

After a number of years of closure whilst the museum was upgraded it has now (June 2021) been reopened as the "Museum of Making". derbymuseums.org/museum-of-making Entry is free and the museum includes a cafe. Little or no bike parking available but recommend visiting Bikeworks nearby on Full Street where bikes can be stored securely (and for free) during opening hours (Mon-Fri, office hours). There is bike parking at the Museum, to the left of the main entrance. Of course good locks are required, as with any urban bike parking.
