The dam Schmalwasser near Tambach-Dietharz in the district of Gotha in the Thuringian Forest served to provide drinking water, today still the flood protection and energy production. It was put into operation in 1998 after a long trial period, which lasted from 1993 to 1997. The inauguration was in 1995.
