The volcano Gunung Barujari (also known as Anak Gunung Rinjani) was formed by eruptions in 1994 and 1995 with an altitude of about 2,363 m in the Danau Segara Anak, the centre of the Rinjani caldera. In September 2016 Gunung Barujari suddenly erupted and spewed a massive column of ash into the atmosphere. Several hundred tourists had to be evacuated; apparently nobody was injured.
