A very interesting town with perfectly preserved historical heritage. Highly recommended to see the traditional wooden beam houses. The entire town of Covarrubias has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest since 1965. Of its heritage it is worth highlighting the Torreón de Fernán González, the only Castilian fortress from before the 11th century that is preserved.

The picturesque half-timbered town of Covarrubias is the "cradle of Castile" with a walled town centre. The place name is probably derived from the storage caves dug into the red earth, the cuevas rojas. The town played an important role during the Reconquista and was the residence of the first Count of Castile.
The three-aisled Collegiate Church Colegiata is worth seeing. It was built in the 10th century in place of a much older predecessor and was later redesigned several times.
The fortress-like residential building Torreon de Fernan Gonzalez dates back to the 10th century. return.

Covarrubias is known as "The cradle of Castile" because, in the 10th century, Fernán González, count of Castile, and his son made it the capital of the Infantazgo de Covarrubias, making it one of the most important monastic manors. .

It is part of the network of the most beautiful towns in Spain and has been a national historical-artistic complex since 1965.
