Between the Rheinuferweg and Heisterbacher Straße in Uedorf, a district of Bornheim in the Rhein-Sieg district directly on the Rhine, is the tower of a former windmill, usually referred to as the "windmill stump". It is considered the most historic landmark in Uedorf. A watchtower is said to have existed in its place in Roman times, but there is no clear evidence of this.
On the historical maps of the topographical survey of the Rhineland (Tranchot / von Müffling 1801-1828), the former mill is already listed with "M.in" for French moulin (see map view).

The location of the mill is already documented in the 14th century:
"It was first mentioned in 1344, according to a document from 1445 "our wyntmoelen ... zu Oedorp" belongs to the Elector of Cologne. The Uedorf mill had the status of a ban mill, i.e. the surrounding farmers had to have their grain ground here. Vineyards next to the mill are even mentioned in 1470.” (quoted from uedorf.de, windmill)
After numerous changes of ownership and tenants, the mill ceased operations at the end of the 19th century and the technical facilities were removed from the building. Around 1900/1902, the mill tower was redesigned as a lookout tower and a small park was laid out all around. "In 1945, during the war, the tower was confiscated by American soldiers and converted into a meeting place." (ibid.)

The quarry stone building with a brick frieze on the upper floor and a crown of battlements is partially plastered today. After 1960 the mill property was redivided. The property and the tower, which has since been restored, are now privately owned and are not open to the public. The tower is therefore hardly visible; A limited view of the upper parts is offered from the Uedorfer Rheinuferweg, the building can be seen a little better from the opposite Mondorfer Rheinufer.

As a symbol of Uedorf, the tower is also shown in the center of the Uedorf coat of arms. Its description reads (uedorf.de, coat of arms):
"Below a silver (white) shield head, in it a continuous black cross for the Electorate of Cologne, in a red field a free-floating silver (white) tower over a base structure with three windows one below the other and without a roof. It symbolizes the mill tower, which is the most distinctive building and landmark of Uedorf. Underneath, in a green field, a silver (white) wavy bar for the Rhine, on the left bank of which lies Uedorf, and the fertile Rhine plain and at the same time the Rhineland.”

The object "Uedorfer Mühle (Wartturm)" is a registered monument (monument list Bornheim 2011, number A 0185 / LVR-ADR database number 23123).
