The moated castle was probably founded before the 15th century. In 1468 the fortified complex was owned by the von Metternich family as the "bruchen huis" before it passed to the (eponymous) Wolff von Bergheimerdorf family towards the end of the 16th century. In 1626, the hook-shaped main castle was supplemented by a transept, resulting in a three-wing complex on a closed square floor plan. The castle probably played a role as a refuge in 1583 in the Truchsessian War. In 1721 the castle was owned by the von Waldbott-Bassenheim family, who had the main castle renovated and completely renovated the outer bailey. In the early 19th century, Baron Gerhard von Carnap tried to expand Roisdorf into a health resort, with Wolfsburg serving as a tourist destination. Guests at the Wolfsburg included Ernst Moritz Arndt and the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In 1888, the mayor Wilhelm Rech acquired the property; it is still family-owned today.
