Following the introduction of electricity in the canton of Neuchâtel at the end of the 19th century, the mills along the Doubs gradually stopped operating. At the same time, the need for electrical energy and the expansion of the network increased. The dam here was put into operation in 1953 and used by both Switzerland and France.
In 2005, the turbine for generating electricity was modernized.
