The Hohrainhof state domain is a branch of the Heilbronn correctional facility. This agricultural facility is an open prison area. Prisoners are held there in the first stage of the relaxation phase in order to be allowed to go on day release after a set period of time.

Prison with sense. The convicts of the Hohenrain state domain spend their stay doing farming.

"The farm was first mentioned when Hans von Frauenberg bought it in 1453. In 1505 a building was erected on the 400 acre (approx. 125 ha) site. In 1585 the farm was transferred to the Teutonic Knights, who sold it on to the Kaisheim Monastery near Donauwörth in 1665.

The farm serves both the Teutonic Knights and the Kaisheim Monastery (also called Kaisersheim) as an agricultural farm, the yield of which was delivered to the respective Heilbronn care farms and consumed there or resold. The special focus was on sheep and livestock farming. In 1707 Abbot Roger I Röls had the chapel on the farm - renovated in 1980 - rebuilt in the Baroque style and held Catholic services against the wishes of the Talheim Protestants.

In 1805 the Kingdom of Württemberg took over the farm as part of the secularization. Since then it has been state property. In 1938 the farm was a branch of the Heilbronn prison.

Today, between 25 and 30 prisoners are housed in relaxed conditions on the Hohrainhof state estate. The main areas of management are arable farming, cattle breeding, viticulture and landscape management." Source: talheim.de/90
