Large church in the heart of Malchin.

The church used to belong to the Diocese of Cammin. It is a replacement for the original Romanesque building that burned down in 1397. The original building was destroyed except for a few foundation walls. The master builders integrated these into the new Gothic building. All of the furniture was probably destroyed in the fire. The new building was inaugurated in 1440. Up until the Reformation there were 29 other altars in the building in addition to the Marian altar, but these were lost over time. In the 19th century, the church redesigned the interior of the building. The galleries, the church pews and the pulpit are still there in the 21st century. In 1830 the congregation put up a new altar in the chancel and brought the altar of Mary to the side chapel. The roof and facade of the nave and north aisle of the church, as well as the organ, were restored with funds from the Zeit Foundation.
