The memorial site "denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof" commemorates more than 8,000 Jews and Sinti who were deported from Hamburg between 1940 and 1945. For most of them, it was a journey to death.

Where Lohsepark now stretches from the SPIEGEL building in the north to Baakenhafen in the south, the Hannoverscher Bahnhof once stood. Between 1940 and 1945, over 8,000 Jews, Sinti and Roma from Hamburg and northern Germany were deported from here to the ghettos, concentration and extermination camps in Central and Eastern Europe.

Since 2017, the denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof has commemorated this dark chapter in Hamburg's city history.

In the future, a documentation center developed by the Hamburg Memorials and Learning Places Foundation will embed the fate of the deportees in the history of National Socialist persecution.

Until the planned documentation center opens, the denk.mal Hannoverscher Bahnhof information pavilion offers initial information about the site of the deportations in Hamburg.

Place to commemorate the time when Hannoversche Bahnhof (until 1892 Venloer Bahnhof) opened as a terminus in Hamburg and received trains coming from the south before it was replaced by Hamburg Hauptbahnhof in 1906.
