This footbridge located at the confluence of the Louet and the Loire is essential in the literal sense because it is the only bridge over the Louet before Rochefort.
However, this footbridge is only in place during the summer months, roughly from mid-June to the end of September.
Without this bridge, you can only connect Chalonne and Rochefort by the slopes of Layon and the Corniche Angevine, magnificent, but quite steep.
If in doubt, check with the local tourist office.
The path along the Loire is more for gravel/MTB/VTC.

There is another alternative to connect Chalonnes to Rochefort (and vice versa) without going through the Haie Longue. Coming from Chalonnes and before attacking the hill of the Sainte Barbe chapel (patron saint of miners) there is a path on the left which allows you to go to Rochefort (arrival at the bottom of the Haie Longue on the other side or a small football stadium in the middle of nowhere) Elevation = 0 m - The path can be problematic for mountain bikers. It is possible to return to the island of Rochefort thanks to a chain ferry, at the port of Pâtis. The path is not passable if the water levels are high
