Even in a bog, it is not only wet everywhere, but also offers dry areas.
They are ideal habitat for reptiles. While amphibians (toads and frogs) are dependent on bodies of water in which they have to stay at least part of the time because of their sensitive skin, the skin of reptiles, i.e. lizards and snakes, is covered with horny scales that protect them from evaporation.
As cold-blooded animals with a pronounced need for warmth, they regulate their body temperature by alternating between sunny spots and shaded areas as needed.
