The Hompessenalpe was first mentioned in a document in 1830 as “Sennalpe Schwand”, has been family-owned since then and officially belongs to the “Kalzhofen 10” property. The name “Hompessen” comes from the year 1800, through the marriage of a certain Josef Hundbiß. Up until 1955, the milk was made into cheese on the alp. In the following 40 years, the milk was delivered to the valley. In 1996 the alp was renovated and cheese production started again on site. The Sennalpe has been awarded Bioland recognition since 1992. Various products can be purchased on site, there is no economy here.
