Worth knowing: The Perm Tunnel is protected as a Natura 2000 site. It is a wintering habitat for numerous bats. The Perm Tunnel occupies a prominent position among bat wintering habitats in North Rhine-Westphalia: with several hundred bats hibernating there annually, it is one of the largest wintering sites in northwest Germany. Among the six species recorded, the pond bat and Bechstein's bat are particularly notable.
