The Rotenburg water tower is a remnant of Gut Gothard and probably the most unusual photo motif in the district town. The tower was built on the site of an old sand engraving, which the then owner of the Gothard estate, Johann Edmund Siemers, is said to have bought after 1910 and sold again in 1917. In 1920 the Gothard estate changed hands again, this time it was Hartmann Freiherr von Richthofen. In 1922 he had the water tower with attached apartment built according to the plans of the Rotenburg architect Gohde. The tower served to supply water to the castle and other buildings on the property. That was "the first existing water pipe in Rotenburg", according to the former city archivist Wattenberg. At the beginning of the 1970s, the wind turbine was dismantled and an electric motor installed. In 1995 the building with the water tower was placed under monument protection.
