The nature reserve Zerrinsee near Qualzow is a 32-hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, four kilometers northeast of Mirow. The name derives from the former Zerrinsee and the northern village of Qualzow. The Unterschutzstellung took place on 2 March 1972 with the purpose of protecting a Versumpfungsmoor in the lowlands of a drained lake as a habitat of rare animal and plant species and develop.
The area condition is classified as unsatisfactory, because by low water levels in the moor woody plants spread and thus the Moorentwässerung is accelerated. There are no public roads in the area.
History and water balance
The nature reserve is located in a glacial Sanderlandschaft. The Zerrinsee originally covered an area of 20 hectares, as can be seen on the Schmettauschen map from 1788. In the 19th century, extensive lowering of the water level by 1.5 meters led to the dry falling of the lake, which was subsequently used as grassland and used as grassland. Currently, the areas are not managed.
Flora and fauna
The bog vegetation of the reserve, consisting of peat moss, common cranberry, mud-leaved, round-leaved sundew and bladeby, has been displaced by pine growth and is found only rudimentary in forest-free areas. Moor frog and forest lizard live in the areas. Birds of prey in the area are robins, Fitislaubsänger, wren, snipe, teal, spotted and crane.
