The late Gothic building ensemble of Englar Castle with the high facade, the steep Gothic hipped roof and the red and white shutters that are mandatory for South Tyrol is very impressive. It is located above the town of St. Michael / Eppan. Rainer Maria Rilke spent a few days on Englar at the beginning of the 20th century. The castle impressed the poet so much that he dedicated the poem “Englar in Eppan” to it. Today Englar Castle is a small hotel, see schloss-englar.it/de/hotel.
